JAMMU, May 21: Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of GMC Jammu today concluded its two days long full board meeting under the chairmanship of Dr Subash Bahrdwaj (Acting Chairman) to accord provisional approval to 214 research proposals (synopsis) submitted by MD/MS/DNB students of 2023-2026 batch as well as non-synopsis protocols by the faculty and residents.
In presence of Principal & Dean GMC Jammu, Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Members Secretary IEC GMC Jammu Dr Sanjay Kumar Bhasin presented report. He informed that IEC GMC Jammu is according Ethical Approval to Research Proposals of researchers from GMC Jammu, all peripheral GMCs, all District Hospitals, SMVD, Jammu University, and Nursing Colleges etc. He informed that till date, 541 Synopsis stand approved by the IEC GMC Jammu, in addition to 350 Non Synopsis Research Projects in last four years.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta, his address, lauded work of IEC GMC Jammu and especially the Member Secretary for strictly following CDSCO and DHR norms while giving approvals to research projects. He said that main focus of any medical institution is 30 percent teaching, 30 percent research, 30 percent patient care and 10 percent other medical related work.
He assured all possible help from the institution to IEC GMC Jammu in the interest of scientific research and encourage researchers to get quality funded projects from ICMR and other scientific research bodies.
During two days long deliberations, 62 PG students presented their studies (Category A) where interventions were involved. In addition 78 category B and 59 Category C studies were also tabled for approval of full board. 18 Non-synopsis studies were also approved.
Dr Subash Bhardwaj (Acting Chairman of IEC GMC Jammu) said that HoDs and the Guides shall be requested to scrutinize the research proposals within the department before submitting them to the IEC so that quality of projects do not get compromised.
The members who attended two day full board meeting included Prof Ghanshyam Dev (Advisor to IEC), Prof Anil Gupta and Prof Ravinder Gupta from ASCOMS, Prof Seema Gupta, Prof Anjali Mehta, Dr Nancy Meengi from Central University, Advocate P S Parmar, Dr Dev Raj (Statistician) and Sudhir Kumar(Layman).
