Srinagar, June 11: Security forces detected and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore sub district on Saturday morning, officials said
They said the suspicious object was found at Hygam area along the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway during a routine road opening drill by the forces.
The area was immediately cordoned off and the traffic along the busy highway was suspended, a security official said.
“The bomb disposal squad was called to check the object that turned out to be the IED,” he added.
He said the IED was later defused in a controlled way and the traffic movement on the highway was restored.
Officials said that the IED may have been planted to target the security forces. (Agencies)
