JAMMU, Oct 29: Army today detected and defused a mobile bomb planted by the militants on roadside at Dalogra, about 11 kilometers short of Rajouri on Main Jammu-Rajouri road this morning, averting a major tragedy while Pakistan Army again resorted to heavy firing on forward Indian positions in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district this evening, violating ceasefire.
Official sources said a Road Opening Party (ROP) of Army detected an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), fitted with a mobile telephone bomb, at 6 am today at Dalogra on Jammu-Rajouri road. The Army personnel stopped traffic on the road and sounded an alert.
Sniffer dogs and Bomb Disposal Squads were rushed to the spot, sources said, adding that the bomb was removed to an isolated place and defused there successfully.
The IED might have been planted by the militants to target security forces or passenger vehicles on Rajouri road. However, Army foiled plot of the militants by timely detecting the mobile bomb fitted IED and defusing it safely.
Sources said the mobile bomb IED would have exploded with a ring on the telephone. It was after a long time that a mobile phone fitted IED had been fabricated by the militants to target security personnel and civilians. Earlier, such IEDs had been found in Mendhar area of Poonch district.
According to sources, the explosive material was fitted with wires attached to mobile telephones in way that it would go off as soon as the phone received a call. The telephone call on the mobile phone is made at a time when the blast had to be caused, they said.
Traffic on Jammu-Rajouri road was restored after the IED was defused and the area was sanitized.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Army started heavy firing on Indian positions from their forward posts of Bhattal and Roza at about 7 pm. Dogra, Gorha and other posts of the Army were targeted in the firing, which continued intermittently till late this evening.
Initially, Pakistan Army used heavy fire arms but the volume of firing came down to small arms fire later. Indian side gave calibrated response to the firing to ensure that militants didn’t manage to infiltrate into this side under the cover of firing by the Pakistani troops.
The firing and ceasefire violation by the Pakistani troops came just two days after the Army officers of India and Pakistan exchanged fruits and sweets at cross-LoC point of Chakan-Da-Bagh in Poonch district on October 27 on the occasion of Eid festival.
No casualties or damage was reported on Indian side in firing by the Pakistani troops, sources said, adding that there was a possibility that Pakistan firing was aimed at pushing infiltrators into this side. However, the intrusion bid was foiled by the troops by retaliating the fire effectively.
