JAMMU, Sept 9: Even as Army and police continued searches for the militants at Nowshera, Krishna Ghati and Chamrerh forests in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, they recovered a large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosive material from Budhal area under the jurisdiction of Kandi police station in Rajouri district this morning.
Official sources said the recoveries include nine white plastic boxes with brown explosive material. The boxes were in the size of 10’’x6’’x6’’.
Troops of Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of Sector Headquarters, Budhal under Uniform Force along with police personnel of Kandi police station destroyed a natural hideout of the militants at village Jaranwala in Kotranka tehsil of Rajouri this morning after conducting searches in the area for past two days.
Searches were launched on a specific input developed by Army and police on a consignment of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants having been dumped at Jaranwala.
Army and police destroyed the hideout and made the recoveries, sources said.
Recoveries included seven Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), four IED circuits, 10 hand grenades, 52 electric detonators, two letter pads of LeT outfit, nine white plastic box with brown explosive material, one broke mobile telephone without SIM card, two magazines of AK-47 rifle, 38 rounds of AK-47 rifle and some medicines.
Sources said the seized consignment of arms, ammunition and explosive material belonged to the militants, who were operating in the area earlier. However, they added, some other militant groups might have been trying to take over the consignment to carry out terror activities.
Such a large quantity of recovery of arms, ammunition and explosives was a big setback for the militants, sources said, adding that the consignment reportedly belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, which was evident from the recovery of LeT letter pads from the hideout.
Meanwhile, Army and police continued searches at various places including Dhanaka, Bhawani and Lamberhi in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, Chamrerh forests on Rajouri-Poonch border and Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district following reports about movement of the militants.
However, no contact has been established with the militants so far at any of the places, sources said.
Searches, however, continued.
