JAMMU, Sept 15: The 49th Engineers’ day was celebrated by the Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre at its Institutional complex, Channi Himmat, here which was attended by large number of engineers from various departments and organizations.
This day is celebrated all over the country to commemorate birth anniversary of the greatest engineer Sir M Visvesvaraya, Bharat Ratna.
Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Sham Lal Choudhary was the chief guest.
Ajay Gupta, FIE chairman of Jammu Centre presented the welcome address.
Rich tributes were paid to Sir M Visvesvaraya by Er Pooja Wazir, AMIE Assistant Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B)Department, in which she highlighted the sterling qualities of Sir M. Visvesvaraya like austerity, integrity, competence and discipline.
Minister honoured Er KR Suri, FIE; General Manager, O&M (retired), Power Grid Corporation of India, Jammu with DK Gupta Engineer of the Year Award for the year 2016 for his life time achievements to the engineering profession. Er Inderjit Singh, FIE; former Chief Engineer, Hydraulic, J&K Govt was also honoured by the chief guest with IEI Award for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India). Both of them were presented with Gold Medalls as a mark of respect.
The chief guests also presented RL Sharma Memorial Gold Medal to Er Vijay Kumar Sharma, MIE for presenting the best technical paper during the year 2015 – 2016 and Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal to Er Sewa Ram, MIE for presenting 2nd best technical paper during the year 2015 – 2016, respectively.
The ministers also honoured Er SC Thukral, FIE; Er PK. Nanda, MIE; Er KR Suri, FIE; Er B L Rawal, MIE; Er Sewa Ram, MIE; Er Vijay Kumar Sharma, MIE; Er Ranjeev Sawhney, MIE; Er Supinder Jeet Singh,AMIE; Er Rajesh Kumar Angural & Er Akash Dusgotra, AMIE with mementoes for presenting two or more technical papers during the year 2015- 2016.
In addition to above first issue of 14th volume of quarterly News Letter of Jammu Local Centre was also released by the Ministers on this occasion in presence of Editorial Board comprising of Ajay Gupta, PK Nanda, Anil Verma, Rabinder Shekher, Dr Bhawna Sharma and BL Rawal.
The inaugural session was followed by a technical session which was chaired jointly by Prof Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu and Er Bimal Kumar Tickoo, Secretary Technical cum Development Commissioner, PWD J&K Govt in which nine papers were presented in the shape of Power Point Presentations by Er SC Thukral, Er. PK. Nanda, Er KR Suri, Er Vijay Kumar Sharma, Er Ranjeev Sawhney, Er Sewa Ram, Er Akash Dusgotra, Er Rajesh Kumar Angural and Er Sanjeev Gupta, Asst. Professor, GECT, Jammu on the theme topic “Skill Development for Young Engineers to Reform the Core Sector: Vision 2025”.
BL Rawal, Hony Secretary of the Centre conducted the proceedings of the function and presented vote of thanks to the gathering..
Meanwhile, Govt College of Engineering & Technology Jammu celebrated 49th Engineers’ Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendry Sir, Mokshagundan Vasvesvaraya.
On the occasion, a symposium on the topic “Emerging and Innovative Trends in Engineering & Technology” was organized in the College in which the students participated and expressed their views.
Dr Sameru Sharma, Principal of the College, who was chief guest on the occasion, emphasized the young students to come forward with creative thinking to strengthen the pace of technological development.
Dr Veena Rani, focused on engineering trends from Vedas and encouraged the students to revert towards Vedas to meet the contemporary challenges of global world. Dr Simmi Dutta; Baldev Raj and Karan Gupta were judges on the occasion.
Dhruv Sharma, Pranav Sharma and Pranav Singh of Ist Semester secured first, second and third positions, respectively while Amit Parihar and Abshish of 7th Semester secured first and second consolation prize, respectively.
YCET also celebrated Engineer’s Day by organizing a symposium on the topic “Role Of Engineers in Nation Building” at seminar hall organized by Steel Club of Civil Engineering.
Rich tributes were paid to the engineering “Father of Nation” Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvarya on the occasion.
Sir M Visvesvarya was an eminent Indian engineer, Scholar statesman and Diwan of Mysore during 1912 to 1918 and Chief Architect of the protection of the flood protection system for the city of Nizam (Hyderabad) in Telangana and for the construction of KRS dam in Mysore and many more contributions like establishing of Badravati steel industry etc.
The special guest of the day was Prof JR Dhotra, Director, IMS Jammu. and other dignitaries present during the function are Dr Seema Narian, Director YCET, Er BR Verma and RS Dalpatia. During this event 12 students of different streams participated.
Sohail Jafari & Narain Keser got Ist prize , Priyanka Manhas got 2nd prize.
During the function Dr Seema Narian extended best wishes for the young budding engineers. Er. Vidhi Singh Jamwal (Chairman JGEI), SDS Jamwal (vice chairman JGEI), Er Renu Bangroo(MD JGEI) showered blessings and wishes to all the engineering fraternity.
