JAMMU, May 17: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre in collaboration with Department of Telecommunications (J&K LSA) celebrated the World Telecommunication & Information Society Day here, today with theme “Digital innovation for sustainable development”.
The event among others was attended by engineers from various departments, organizations and senior engineers along with Members of the Committee of IEI, Jammu Local Centre.
On this occasion, Vijay Kumar Surendra, Additional Director General, Department of Telecom, J&K, Jammu was the chief guest and Prachish Khanna, Deputy Director General, Department of Telecom, J&K Jammu was the guest of honour and key note speaker. Ravi Chanyal, former Chairman, IEI Jammu Centre presided over the function, Sachin Tickoo, honorary secretary, IEI Jammu was also present.
At the outset, Ravi Chanyal while welcoming the guests stated that World Telecommunication & Information Society Day 2024 underscores the pivotal role of digital innovation in advancing sustainable development across the globe. In this era, technological advancements offer transformative solutions to pressing societal and environmental challenges.
Vijay Kumar Surendra, Additional Director General, Department of Telecom, J&K, Jammu said human mind has to innovate keeping in view the sustainability and excess of everything is bad. Starting from fighting climate change to eliminating hunger and poverty, digital technologies can help achieve targets under the UN sustainable development goals. Now more than ever, building a sustainable future demands innovative thinking and action in the digital world.
Prachish Khanna, key note speaker on the occasion said, World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2024 offer the chance to explore how digital innovation can help connect everyone and unlock sustainable prosperity for all.
During the seminar, B. L. Rawal, MIE; Ranjeev Sawhney, MIE, Joy Ganjoo, AM Technologist and Akash Dusgotra, AMIE presented their papers on the theme.
Sachin Tickoo, MIE, honorary secretary conducted the proceedings of the event, while speaking on the occasion he said with 2.6 billion people still unconnected, glaring digital gaps hinder innovation across much of the world. Many countries – lacking key policies, investments, and digital skills – are struggling to keep up in today’s fast-changing digital landscape.
WTISD 2024 reminds the world of the progress yet to be made to ensure that everyone can benefit from digital technologies. He further presented the vote of thanks.
