JAMMU, Sept 15: The 50th Engineers’ Day was celebrated by the Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu local Centre at its Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat, Jammu which was attended by large number of engineers from various departments and organizations. This day is celebrated all over the country to commemorate the 156th birth anniversary of the greatest engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Bharat Ratna.
On this occasion Dr. Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister was the chief guest while Sunil Kumar Sharma, Minister of State, PWD (R&B) with independent charge of Transport, was the guest of honour respectively.
At the outset, Er. Ajay Gupta, Chairman of Jammu Centre presented the welcome address.
Rich tributes were paid to Sir M. Visvesvaraya by Er. Supinder Jeet Singh Sodhi,; Regional Head (North), Himachal Futuristic Communication Ltd. in which he highlighted the sterling qualities of Sir M. Visvesvaraya like austerity, integrity, competence and discipline.
Further, on this occasion Er. D. S. Pawar, was honoured by the chief guest with award for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India). He was presented with Gold Medallions as a mark of respect.
Chief guest also presented R. L. Sharma Memorial Gold Medal to Er. Supinder Jeet Singh Sodhi, AMIE for presenting the Best Technical Paper during the year 2016 – 2017 and Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal to Er. Vijay Kumar Sharma, for presenting 2nd best technical paper during the year 2016 – 2017 respectively.
Ministers also honoured Er. S. C. Thukral, FIE; Er. P. K. Nanda, Er. K. R. Suri, Er. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Er. Sewa Ram, Er. Vijay Kumar Sharma, Er. Ranjeev Sawhney, Er. Supinder Jeet Singh, Er. Rajesh Kumar Angural & Er. Akash Dusgotra, with mementoes for presenting two or more technical papers during the year 2016 – 2017.
In addition to above first issue of 15th Volume of quarterly News Letter of Jammu Local Centre was also released by the Deputy Chief Minister on this occasion in presence of Editorial Board comprising of Er. Ajay Gupta, Er. P. K. Nanda, Er. Anil Verma, Er. Rabinder Shekher, Er. Dr. Bhawna Sharma, & Er. B. L. Rawal. The Editorial Board members were also presented with mementos for their outstanding services rendered for the timely publication of News Letter.
The inaugural session was followed by a technical session which was chaired by Er. V. N. Sharma, Member Regional Empowered Committee, Northern Region, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India and former Chief Engineer, P.W.D. J&K Government in which eight papers were presented in the shape of Power Point Presentations by Er. S. C. Thukral, Er. P. K. Nanda, Er. Sewa Ram, Er. Vijay Kumar Sharma, Er. Ranjeev Sawhney, Er. Vinod Kumar, Er. Akash Dusgotra, Er. Rajesh Kumar Angural and on the theme topic “Role of Engineers in a Developing India”.
Er. B. L. Rawal, honorary secretary of the centre conducted the proceedings of the function and presented vote of thanks to the engineers, guests, line departments and media persons for making this function a grand success.
Engineers Day was celebrated in IECS Polytechnic, Purkhoo Camp, wherein faculty members and students paid their tributes to Sir M. Visvesvarayya; whose birthday falls on this day. Principal of the institute Er. K.G. Gupta exhorted the students to become capable and honest professionals and work for development of our country. He also stressed upon the students to join “Swach Bharat Abhiyan”. Other who spoke include Er. H.N. Bhat, Megha Koul and Kushboo Shali.
Yogananda College of Engineering & Technology (YCET) celebrated “Engineers Day” to pay rich tributes to the “Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya” in which various departments of the college viz. Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering & IT, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Sciences participated with great enthusiasm and zeal.
Er Rajneesh Magotra, HoD, on behalf of Civil Engineering Department organized a Model making competition on the topic “Conservation of Water Resources”.
Department of Applied Sciences organized a “Poster Presentation Competition” on the theme “Great Engineers and their invention” 20 students from different departments streams and semesters participated in the said competition.
Electrical Engineering Depart-ment also participated in the Engineer’s Day celebration by organizing an Inter-departmental power-point presentation competition on “Skill Development among young engineers to reform the core sector”. Ten teams participated in the event. The competition was held under the overall supervision of Er. Loveneesh Talwar, HoD, Electrical Engineering.
During the above events, Dr. Arvind Dewangan (Director, YCET) was the Chief Guest and the events were presided by Dr. Sandeep Malik (Dean, YCET), Er. B.R. Verma (Chief Coordinator, YCET), R. S Dalpatia (Deputy Registrar, YCET) and all the faculty members of all the Departments witnessed the events. The prizes were distributed by the chief guest. The chief guest extended best wishes for the young budding engineers.
