SRINAGAR, Apr 13: Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Basant Rath, today seized a Central Reserve Police (CRPF) vehicle at Humahma area in the outskirts of Srinagar as it was plying without documents and lifted several vehicles that were parked on the roads outside auto companies in Hyderpora area.
Basant seized Bolero vehicle being used by the officers in the para-military force as it was without proper documents. The vehicle was taken to Police Post Humhama and the CRPF men were asked to board another vehicle.
The IG Traffic later lifted around a dozen cars from outside Jamkash and Hyundai showrooms. Several cars were parked by these auto companies on road.
He also got marble removed from the road and also road roller and generators of Shalimar Engineering that were parked on road were seized. Basant also got encroachments removed in Sanantnagar area of Srinagar.
Basant Rath has received huge public support in Kashmir for targeting encroachers, especially big businessmen who are close to political parties.
The statement of Saajid Farooq Shah, owner of Coffee Shop in posh Rajbagh area of Srinagar, that was carried on Facebook in which he had termed the behavior of IG Traffic as uncivilized and illegal has got over 2000 comments in 20 hours. Shah had encroached the road and IG Traffic got it removed.
In these comments, people have supported IGP for his commendable job by removing encroachments especially targeting the big businessmen.
One Basharat Ali in his comments has written: “Great officer, honest and dedicated…Allow him to bring change and support him.”
Another Facebook user, Muhmmad Shafi Dar writes: “These millioners should clear footpaths themselves but Rath is doing the job by spoiling his valued time.”
Tawseef Nabi writes: “IG is uncivilized. But others are civilized becoz they encroach the road with diginity.” Niyaz Wani writes: “Great job…influenced people can feel frustrated.”
