Jammu, Aug 14: In commemoration of the 77th Independence Day and under Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, Regional Centre Jammu Kashmir organized a scintillating performance of a theatre play ‘Vocal for Local’ at Natrang Studio Theatre.
The play vociferously speaks about the glory of India and has been brilliantly written and directed by Sumeet Sharma. Shruti Awasthi, Regional Director, IGNCA J&K appreciated the artist for a wonderful performance. She also spoke about the initiatives of IGNCA in Jammu Kashmir.
Earlier, Padmashri Balwant Thakur complimented Shruti Awasthi for organizing a series of wonderful and meaningful events in Jammu which will definitely enrich the cultural texture of the region. He also informed about the persistent and untiring endeavours of Natrang in bringing cultural consciousness in the society.
He also appreciated the efforts of Sumeet Sharma, an academically qualified, National Awardee theatre director who has trained and transformed hundreds of children in the past two decades. Sumeet possesses a running experience of 20 years in which he has done tremendous training programmes and has produced scores of highly innovative new plays with children.
The play ‘Vocal for Local’ revolves around the ‘Panch Pran’ invoked by the Prime Minister of India and in a very interesting manner, speaks about connecting to our roots and feeling a sense of pride in India’s immense contributions to the World. Drenched in more than enough knowledge of the World and Western glorifications in internet, textbooks, etc. the new generation feels alienated towards the glorious past of India. To understand and appreciate our own country and region is an imperative and need of the hour and this was very creatively expressed in the play.
Those who acted in the play included Mihir Gujral, Mehak Chib, Priyal Sharma, Droan Dushyant Kohli, Pragya Wadhera, Sadhya Sharma, Ruhan Chandan, Jaiveer Singh, Araiya Shan, Raaga Sharma, Reet Gupta Aryan Gupta and Saanchi Dutta ,Nitika Aggarwal provided Bharatnatyam mentoring to the children. The dances were choreographed by Sunny Mujju.
