Ignorance is no bliss

The Supreme Court has pronounced that educational institutions seeking indulgence of the court either in the name of mercy or sympathy for the students and be granted recognition is untenable. The students themselves are responsible for not verifying before admission whether an institution is formally recognized or not. Ignorance cannot be bliss for them, it said. Educational institutions are mushrooming in several parts of country including J&K more for pecuniary purposes than for real service to the nation in the field of education. It is disastrous for the society. By this pronouncement in the case of an educational institution from Madhya Pradesh, the Apex Court has alerted the entire student community in the country against seeking admission in fake institutions. It has also sent a signal to the administration and the Union Human Resource Ministry to tighten scrutiny of educational institutions seeking formal recognition. They must ensure that such supplicating institutions have fulfilled all the prescribed norms for recognition. Legal action should be taken against institutions that violate the law.
