JAMMU, Aug 1: The Faculty of Public Administration in the School of Social Sciences, IGNOU, New Delhi, has announced launch of Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PGDDRRM) in the ongoing July 2024 admission cycle to equip the learners with necessary conceptual and analytical skills required for disaster risk reduction and management.
Earlier, in 2006, the faculty had launched the Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management (PGDDM) Programme. As the course material of this Programme is not much relevant now due to paradigm shift in disaster management and many new developments, therefore a new PGDDRRM Programme has been launched to provide updated course material to students, which is developed on the basis of National Education Policy, 2020.
The Programme is designed to comprehensively cover various aspects of disaster risk reduction and management, including an internship component aligned with the National Education Policy, 2020.
“This programme has been designed to address the increasing threats from natural and human-induced hazards, aiming to make our nation safer and more resilient while enhancing the career prospects of learners”, said Dr Jai Prakash Verma, Regional Director, IGNOU, Regional Centre Jammu.
Dr Verma also informed that the University has further extended the last date of admission for the ongoing July 2024 admission cycle till August 14, 2024 keeping in view the interest of students as there were many representations from the aspiring learners across the country to further extend the last date in view of the onset of monsoon and incessant rains resulting in internet and other disruptions.
