IGP discusses Jammu City traffic scenario with stakeholders

JAMMU, Oct 28: To review the traffic scenario on the road of Jammu city, particularly in view of the forthcoming Darbar Move, Diwali festival and \undergoing construction works, S A Watali, IGP Traffic J&K, took a meeting of civil administration, various transport unions and other stakeholders here.
In the meeting, the participants highlighted the problems due to non availability of parking slots /terminal points. They demanded that possible steps be taken for decongestion of Bus Stand, B C Road as well as other routes with necessary assistance from the concerned agencies. It was also pointed out that the mini buses/matadors should be advised to ply on roads as per the route permit; no midway return to be allowed; midway return by the matador drivers in violation of route permit be dealt strictly by cancellation of route permit in the case of any violations.
Further, they demanded clearance/removal of all indolently parked trucks/buses from the working area of the existing General Bus Stand which always hamper the regular vehicular movement. The Rehari business, which is one of the main problem of traffic congestion in Jammu City was also discussed during the meeting.
The participants in general demanded construction of fly-overs and alternate circular/ ring roads on the most congested stretches of Jammu city. They also demanded that there should a check on the over loading in far flung / rural areas to avoid fatal and non- fatal accidents. Till the completion of multi-storey parking, the traders and business owners who park their vehicles on the road side, be permitted and more such type of multi-storey parkings are built at Panjtirthi, Sabzi Mandi and Shalamar, they demanded.
In the end, the participants were assured that their demands, which require attention from civil administration and other working agencies, will be put forth for earlier remedial measures as well as early completion of all ongoing construction works. IGP Traffic assured them that the matter pertaining to Government will be brought into the notice of higher authorities and the rest which require attention and action from traffic point of view will be resolved soon.
