IGP reviews law and order situation, arrangements for Budha Amarnath yatra

JAMMU, July 19: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dilbagh Singh today reviewed the law and order situation and preparedness for Independence Day and Budha Amarnathji Yatra in a meeting of Range DIGs and District SSPs of Jammu zone.

The steps taken on counter insurgency front for a better security and law and order scenario were also discussed. The achievements on most of the fronts were found highly satisfactory. Some areas where focused attention of the District SSPs and Range DIGs would be required, were identified.

The officers were complimented for excellent maintenance of law and order and successful investigation of some of the very importance cases especially murder cases. The IGP, however, expressed his concern over the theft, burglary cases and drive against drug peddlers and stressed the need of making more efforts.

The suicide cases wherein 57 persons died during the year 2011 and road accidents leading to death of 706 persons and injuries to 5882 people were areas of special concern.

He emphasized the need to constitute a Multi-Agency Task Force involving various Departments to check road accidents.

Mr Singh emphasized the need for people-friendly approach and behaviour of the Police force at the cutting edge level and stressed that the Police should be fair in their actions. “Public confidence can be generated through our people-friendly attitude which should be exhibited at all levels”, he said, adding “professional approach should be adopted in investigation of crime especially those of public significance.

IGP also stressed that touring by police officers in their respective areas, their meeting with people and interaction on social and professional matters should be increased.
