UDHAMPUR, Dec 4: For strengthening police-public relations and bringing people nearer to the police for better output in prevention and detection of crime, police public meet was organized in District Police Lines here in which large number of prominent citizens including members of various political parties, ward members, women leaders, Sarpanchs, Panchs, social workers and ex-servicemen participated.
The Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone Rajesh Kumar accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Udhampur-Reasi Range Garib Dass chaired the police-public meeting and crime meeting with Police officers.
In the police-public meeting, SSP Udhampur, Anil Magotra requested the general public to express their suggestions, complaints, grievances before IGP with regard to the police working in Udhampur district and other issues/suggestions pertaining to the maintenance of law and order.
IGP gave patient hearing to the issues raised by the general public during the meeting, which were mainly pertaining to release of more funds under civic action program.
Other issues were increasing the honorarium of SPO and their postings in the units near, installation of CCTV cameras to keep vigil on the activities of anti-social elements, removing encroachment in Gole Market/other main bazaars of Udhampur to ensure smooth traffic flow.
IGP ensured them that all of their genuine issues would be redressed on priority and other issues which are out of the jurisdiction of Police would be communicated to concerned quarters for their immediate action.
Rakesh Kumar requested the participants to come forward with the feedback about the police working in their respective areas and suggestions to improve police working in the interest of timely services delivery to the general public.
Meanwhile, IGP chaired a crime review meeting of District Udhampur. He directed all the participants to adopt proactive policing, take preventive measures, utilize technical advances, follow SOPs and give suggestions for further improvement of SOPs, conduct/attend regular fruitful trainings on CCTNS, riot control, mock drills to handle various unexpected eventualities, keep frequent check on the vehicular moment of vehicles on National Highway, launch anti-drug rallies/awareness programs in collaboration with school/college children, recommend projects like youth clubs, libraries, sports events/cultural events and other activities under Civic Action Programme to channelize the energies of youth towards constructive purposes rather the their inclination towards anti-social activities.
IGP also alerted the participants to remain prepared for tackling the future challenges like facilitating smooth conduct of Parliamentary/Assembly elections.
