IIJSA organises seminar on ‘Heroic deeds of Dogra warriors’

JAMMU, Oct 24: International Institute of J&K Studies and Analysis (IIJSA) Jammu, the only think tank in J&K, here today organised a seminar on ‘Heroic deeds of 100 valiant Dogra warriors’ under the command of Brig Rajinder Singh, who carried out an exceptional ‘Fighting Withdrawal Operation’ against numerically superior Pakistani Force of 10,000 men in 1947 and saved Kashmir from Pakistani invaders.
This is the first event by IIJSA Jammu in series of celebration of ‘Incredible Week 22 October – 27 October, 1947’.
The event was presided over by Dr. Karan Singh, former Sadar-i-Riyasat and was attended by members of Royal family, intellectuals, prominent academicians and members of civil society.
The account of battles fought by 100 Dogra soldiers was given by their sons/grandson and participants including Maj. Gen. G.S Jamwal and N.D.S Jamwal (both above 97).
The political and other aspects were covered by Dr. Karan Singh.
Group Capt Umong Singh Samyal gave full overview of the event which led this attack.
He also informed about the heroics of Lt. Col. Narayan Singh, CO 4 JAK who delayed invaders for 24 hrs.
Col. Rajinder Singh gave details of how his father Capt. Prithvi Singh captured the lead vehicle of invaders and made sure that the road in blocked.
Nar Singh Dev Jamwal talked about operations conducted by platoon of Sub Duni Chand of which he is the sole survivor.
Maj. Gen. Goverdhan Singh Jamwal gave account of battles at Uri, Mahura, Rampur and Buniyar and highlighted the heroics of Brigadier Rajinder Singh where he laid his life.
The presidential address was given by Dr. Karan Singh. The function concluded with vote of thanks by Brigadier Dr Vijay Sagar Dheman.
