JAMMU, Dec 23: Startups at the Incubation Centre of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu received valuable insights on mental health and employee well-being during a transformative session conducted by Dr Navneet Kour, renowned social entrepreneur & consultant, founder of Creative Self-Employed Entrepreneurs Cooperative Ltd, and Director of Technisch Kaizen Services Pvt Ltd.
Ankush Verma, Chief Innovation Officer IIM Srinagar gave the welcome address for the session that emphasized the importance of fostering an open and supportive workplace culture where employees and entrepreneurs alike feel comfortable discussing mental health challenges.
Addressing participants, Dr Kour highlighted that prioritizing mental health not only benefits individual well-being but also contributes to improved productivity, retention, and the long-term success of startups.
“Happy employees are the cornerstone of exceptional organizational results. Startups must prioritize mental well-being to create a supportive environment that prevents burnout, anxiety, and other stress-related challenges faced during the demanding entrepreneurial journey.”
Dr Kour emphasized the importance of open dialogue around mental health. “Leaders and team members should foster an environment where challenges can be discussed without fear of judgment,” she said and added that resources like counselling services, stress management workshops and employee assistance programs are essential to ensuring team members have access to professional help when needed.
During the session, participants engaged in mindfulness exercises and explored the yogic approach to managing stress. Dr Kour demonstrated techniques that can easily be adopted in high-pressure work environments to promote balance and mental clarity.
