IIMC celebrates Foundation Day

JAMMU, Aug 17: On the occasion of 53rd Foundation Day of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), its Northern Regional Campus, Jammu celebrated the event on its campus today with KB Jandial, IAS former Commissioner/  Secretary in Jammu and Kashmir Government, as a chief guest and Neha Jalali, IIS, Deputy Director, Department of Field Publicity (GoI) as a Guest of Honour.
The event began with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest followed by the formal address presented by Manohar Khajuria, Regional Director, Northern Regional campus of IIMC, who spoke about the Institution in detail especially about Jammu Campus.
Students of English Journalism showcased their talent by presenting an inspirational skit, a talk show and documentaries made on social issues starting with a graceful Ganesh Vandana. Students presented a panel discussion, followed by a power-packed performance by them in the form of a skit called “Kuch Baaki Hai” that highlighted the importance of Journalism after 70 years of India’s Independence. Documentaries made by a student on issues such as malnutrition, state of textile industries in Punjab and a short film “The Letter” touched the hearts of every one.
K B Jandial having vast knowledge of Government functioning especially in Information Department addressed media students. He shared his experience of being a journalist and a senior Government bureaucrat covering militancy at its peak in the Valley. He told the students, “Journalism was his first love and that Journalism is as important as bureaucracy.” He advised the students to be thorough professionals, gain thorough knowledge on the issues and make use of technology to be able to reach out to the masses. He further told them to take part in debates on current issues.
Neha Jalali talked about the need for institutions and the role they play in shaping our society. She also talked about the establishing year of IIMC in 1965 by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and how initially Government officials and budding journalists were trained at the institute. While appreciating the role of students in the event, she advised them to take more such initiatives beside their media studies in future.
