IIMC holds 46th convocation, presents diplomas to students

NEW DELHI, Dec 5: Secretary, Information and Broadcasting (I&B), Chairman, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Bimla Julka presented Post Graduate (PG) Diplomas to 316 students from all six campuses in the country at 46th Convocation ceremony held here.
Awards to 26 outstanding students from all the six campuses were also presented for their excellence in the various PG Diploma courses.
Sugam Singhal of Jammu centre topped the Jammu regional centre and also secured the highest marks in the PG Diploma course in Journalism (English) amongst all six centres of IIMC country wide.
Sumit Sundriyal won the PTI Award in PG Diploma Course in Journalism (Hindi), while Abhishek Malhotra bagged Shri Achin Ganguly Memorial Award in the PG Diploma Course in advertising and public relations. Divya Sathyanarayanan won the Star TV Award for securing the highest marks in the PG Diploma course in Radio and TV Journalism.
While speaking, Bimla Julka said that the Government was committed to facilitate high standards of education in the field of Journalism and Communication at the IIMC through a serious of new initiatives.
He mentioned that the current convocation ceremony was extremely significant as the students from all the six centres of IIMC were being conferred with their PG diplomas for the first time. He also mentioned that necessary funds had been provided by the Ministry to the institute for construction of permanent campuses once land had been allotted by the State Governments.
Besides imparting hands on training for newspaper production, TV and Radio News Production, emphasis is laid on field reporting, covering almost all the important beats of a newspaper. Equipped with modern facilities, gadgets, 24×7 support of faculty members, students are sure to learn all aspects of journalism here, Julka added.
