IIMC Jammu to start PG Diploma courses in Urdu, Hindi Journalism

JAMMU, Jan 21: Director General, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) K.G Suresh today said the proposal for starting Post Graduate Diploma courses in Urdu and Hindi Journalism would be taken up with the Executive Council of IIMC to run these courses at the Northern Regional Campus of the Institute in Jammu.
The DG, IIMC said this during a meeting with the Director, Information Muneer-ul-Islam here.
He further said these courses would be started with 15 students each after selecting them through common entrance test at the national level. The examination centres for the same would be setup across the country including Jammu and Srinagar, he added.
The Director, Information said the matter for providing education loans at lowest interest rates to the economically backward students would be taken up with the State Government, besides facilitating them in getting the internships and ensuring other facilities for the visiting faculty.
He asked the DG, IIMC to start short term certificate courses for working journalists in the State to enhance their skills. These courses should be conducted during winters in Jammu and summers in Srinagar, he stressed.
The DG, IIMC asked the Director, Information to submit a detailed proposal for the same so that it can be taken up with the Executive Council for approval. He also offered the services of IIMC to train Information Officers/PR professionals working with the State Government in Delhi to expose them to the latest techniques involved in the field of journalism and public relations.
Regional Director, Northern Regional Campus IIMC Jammu Manohar Khajuria was also present in the meeting.
