Take full advantage of opportunities at institute: VC to students

JAMMU, Aug 8: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in Jammu has successfully launched its orientation program for the 2024-25 academic year, conducted in a hybrid mode from the New Delhi campus.
The two-day event saw participation from new students in Digital Media, English Journalism, and Hindi Journalism, along with faculty and students from IIMC’s regional campuses in Dhenkanal, Kottayam, Amravati, and Aizawl via the institute’s YouTube channel.
In her address, Dr Anupama Bhatnagar, Vice Chancellor (VC) of IIMC, encouraged students to maximize their time at the institute, emphasizing its status as a leading media education hub with top-notch faculty.
She urged students to take full advantage of the opportunities at IIMC for a successful future.
Dr Nimish Rustagi, ADG at IIMC, highlighted the intense competition in the media field but assured that the education and skills gained at IIMC would build a strong foundation for success.
Guest speakers included Shalabh Upadhyay, CEO of NEWJ & ASK Films, who advised students to learn from failures and stay updated with technological advancements to create unique content.
Maj Gen Dhruv C Katoch, Director at India Foundation, emphasized the importance of identifying and pursuing one’s aim, while Dr Brajesh Kumar Singh, Group Editor at Network 18 Group, stressed staying informed about industry trends and maintaining a hunger for learning.
He also noted that recruiters value linguistic skills, technological awareness, and fundamental knowledge.
The orientation featured an introductory session moderated by Prof (Dr) Pramod Kumar, DSW & HoD of Strategic Communication, and Prof (Dr) Surbhi Dahiya, HoD of Media Business Studies.
The second session introduced the faculty from all IIMC campuses, including Dr Dilip Kumar, Regional Director of IIMC Jammu, and several assistant professors.
This session was moderated by Prof Rakesh Goswami, Head of Admissions at IIMC and former Regional Director of IIMC Jammu.
