JAMMU, Sept 15: Two research scholars from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu have earned prestigious awards at the 15th International Conference of the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies 2023 (EASTS 2023), held in Shah Alam, Malaysia.
EASTS is renowned for its biennial international conferences, which serve as a pivotal platform for the exchange of cutting-edge transportation research and practices. The conferences play a vital role in advancing transportation knowledge across various modes and aspects. IIT Jammu’s participation in EASTS 2023 culminated in outstanding recognition for their scholars.
Harish Kumar Saini, working under the guidance of Dr Ankit Kathuria from the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Jammu, clinched the prestigious “Outstanding Poster Presentation Award for Young Researchers.”
His research, focusing on Exclusive Motorcycle Lanes as a strategy to mitigate motorcyclist crashes, received acclaim for its potential to enhance motorcycle safety-a critical concern in many regions. This award underscores the significance of Saini’s work in addressing road safety challenges. Adding to the accolades, Anamika Yadav, also under the mentorship of Dr Ankit Kathuria, secured the “Honourable Mention Award” sponsored by Volvo for the best poster presentation.”
Her research centers on the safety evaluation of road facilities, including intersections and roundabouts, using surrogate safety measures. Yadav’s recognition underscores the pivotal role her research plays in advancing road safety infrastructure.
The EASTS 2023 conference featured over 400 oral presentations and 85 poster presentations, showcasing a diverse array of transportation research and innovation by scholars from across the globe. The fact that only 5 posters received esteemed awards highlights the rigorous scrutiny and exceptionally high standards maintained for these recognitions.
These awards not only acknowledge the dedication and tireless efforts of IIT Jammu’s young researchers but also underscore the invaluable contributions they are making to the field of transportation studies.
