JAMMU, Jan 8: The evening before the IIT Jammu’s first ever convocation ceremony witnessed wonder from the audiences as performers from Jammu’s Natrang Theatre group danced to the melodies of Jammu and Kashmir.
The performance ‘Celebrating Diversity’ unfolded the spectacular dance traditions of Dogri, Gojari, Pahari, Bhadarwahi and Ladakhi cultures. It showcased the different colours, rhythms, costumes, design pattern and artistic expressions through the dance of J&K.
This amazing bouquet perfectly represented the artistic traditions of this part of the world. The dance presentation was artistically blended with each other under the directions of Balwant Thakur, who is known for bringing Dogri theatre to international notice.
The cultural programme was organised by Dr Amitash Ojha, Dr Quleen Kaur Bijral, Dr Ankit Kathuria, Ankit Gupta, Akanksha Chauhan and research scholar Pummy Sharma and Tanu Gupta.
The performance was thoroughly enjoyed by students and their parents, who have arrived on campus to participate in the institute’s convocation ceremony on January 9, 2021.
The performance astounded the local audiences as well as people present from different parts of the country. This one hour cultural spectacle represented the vision of IIT Jammu to promote cultural and artistic initiatives of the region.
Prof Sarkar, Dean Academics and Chairman of the Convocation Committee said, “The amalgamation of Dogri, Gojari, Pahari, Bhadarwahi, Ladakhi and Kashmiri culture in one dance performance had left us spellbound. IIT Jammu organised this programme to promote the art and culture of the region”.
Madhusudan Agarwal, Vice Chairman, Ajanta Pharma, Mumbai and Consulate of Yuganda in his commendation for the event donated an amount of Rs 1 lakh to the Natrang team. He along with his wife Mamta Agarwal sang a classical song followed by Dr Ankur Bansal’s classic rendition.
