JAMMU, Feb 1: The residents of Illaga in Kuntwara area of Kishtwar district crave for development.
The residents, who held a protest demonstration under the chairmanship of Sarpanch and BJP leader, Sanjay Parihar said the area still remains un-connected with its surroundings due to lack of road connectivity. The Congress & National Conference (NC) Governments have totally ignored Illaga for the reasons best known to them. There are no roads to the hospital and there is no Higher Secondary Schools in the whole of the area, the protestors alleged.
They said in 2008 the then Chief Minister, Gulam Nabi Azad visited this area and promised to provide all these facilities but to their surprise nothing has been done so far. With the construction of the Rattle Hydroelectric Project, the construction of a road from Chatter to Kuntwara was sanctioned but after its closure, the road work was also abandoned and only two kms of it were constructed, they added.
“We the people of Illaqa once again request to present dispensation to get this road completed as early as possible”, they said.
They said during Government of Gh. Nabi Azad, the road from Kandni to Ohli via Bhandera, Churiyana village was also sanctioned in addition to sanctioning of two Higher Secondary Schools, two public Health Centers and one Animal Husbandry Centre which was promised by him but it also remained a dream for Kuntwara area as no one took pains after the fall of his Government.
The people of the area requested to the Government to reconsider their demand and start the construction of road and other development works on war footing basis.
The Sarpanch and other residents of the area have also made an appeal to Rattle Project authorities to reconsider the rate of compensation for the shops, houses and other structures which are coming under the project. As the compensation has been sanctioned over 10 years back and later the project was abandoned. They demanded the compensation as per prevailing market rate as the same have increased since then.
