How existing rules can be interpreted illegally and benefit awarded to those who by no count deserve the same can be seen as to how The Jehlum Valley Forest Division in Baramulla district has issued large number of sanctions of timber to the people living outside the forest zone. Not only this, even illegal constructions in the forest division have been allowed. This all demonstrates how blatantly provisions under Forest Department for issuance of timber standing dry or of fallen trees to the people within the periphery of forests and in inaccessible areas have been violated and benefits passed on to those living outside forest areas. Motives can definitely be attributed.
It may be noted that the timber is issued to people in those areas where no forest sale depot facility is available. In such cases, timber is issued to people direct from forests under Jammu and Kashmir Forest notice on concessional rates. However, things were manipulated and under its garb , timber was sanctioned under ‘Kashmir Notice’ by the officials of the Forest Division to ineligible people . Timber was sanctioned illegally in all the four territorial ranges of Baramulla, Doabagh, Uri and Boniyar under Kashmir Notice.. The list of beneficiaries is with the ‘Excelsior’ but we urge the higher authorities to take cognizance of these violations and initiate necessary action against the concerned officials of the Forest Department so that the loot of forests by their ‘saviours’ was prevented.
