Illegal mining

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Amid unrest, illegal sand mining continues in Valley’  DE Aug 27.
The anti-social elements, mafia-whether land or sand always remain ready for an opportunity to indulge in misdeeds. This time unrest in the Valley has provided them the same.
It is not only the sand mafia but wood smugglers too, who are bent upon destroying the fragile eco-system of the State. The State is already witnessing an ecological disaster in terms of flash floods, weather change, and dwindling forest cover and wildlife.
Our forest have witnessed vandalisation right from the onset of militancy in the State. These people have denuded large swathes of forest cover for minting money. Without bothering about its long term consequence, they have kept their trade thriving.
These people have to be stopped right now, before it is too late. If not police, it is incumbent upon local people to stop the mafia from indulging in illegal activities, and save sand and forests.
Yours etc…
