DODA, Oct 6: Forest Department dismantled a sawmill operating illegally and seized 76 pieces of timber, here today.
As per official spokesperson, continuing the drive to end the menace of forest offences today, a joint team of forest officials of territorial and Forest Protection Force (FPF) headed by DFO Doda, Deputy Director FPF and Range Officer Siraj under the supervision of the Conservator of Forests Chenab Circle, raided the premises of Javed Ahmed Nehru, near Sports Stadium Doda and found one sawmill operating and cutting illegal timber scants.
The team seized the 76 pieces of timber and sawmill. The owner was booked under Section 6 Forest Act and prosecution started under 26 Forest Act.
Meanwhile, in another anti-encroachment drive, Forest Department retrieved 35 kanals and 2 marlas of forest land from Compartment Number 69/Siraj of Koti Block. The team removed brushwood fencing and the crop sown in the area was also destroyed on the spot.
