REASI, May 6: Continuing the drive against drug abuse and illicit liquor, Reasi Police today arrested a bootlegger and a drug peddler besides recovering illicit liquor and marijuana from their possession.
Reports said that during routine patrolling, Police party of Police Station Katra noticed suspicious movement of a person near Railway Chowk. During frisking, 130 grams of marijuana like substance was recovered from the possession of accused, identified as Muneer Hussain, son of Bashir Ahmed of Darabi, Tehsil Katra.
The accused was arrested on the spot and recovered marijuana was seized. A case FIR number 120/2022, under section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered in this connection at Police Station Katra.
In another success, Police Party of Police Check Post Balani, Katra intercepted a Motorcycle JK20B-6267 and recovered six bottled of JK special desi whiskey from possession of the rider, identified as Vicky Sharma, son of Subash Chander of Searly, Tehsil Katra. The accused was trying to smuggle liquor in the holy town Katra. In this regard, a case FIR number 121/22 U/S 188 IPC has been registered at Police Station Katra. Motorcycle was seized and accused Vicky got arrested in the instant case.
In a separate incident, Police party of Police Station Pouni smashed an illicit liquor still being run by the accused, namely Pritam Singh son of Harnam Singh of Kheralair. Police recovered 15 litres of Lahan (Hooch) and two litres of illicit liquor from the residence of accused person, who manage to flee from the spot by taking advantage of darkness.
A case FIR number 23/2022 U/S 48(a) Excise Act has been registered in this connection at Police Station Pouni.
