Illicit timber recovered during surprise patrolling

Srinagar, Sept 30: The Forest Department today said that during a surprise patrolling operation in the vulnerable areas of Doabgah Range in Baramulla district of north and illicit timber was recovered.
An official of the department said: “During the surprise patrolling, area dominance was done at places like Chak Gujri, Shutloo, Nadihal covering. An ambush was laid just near Hajibal Forests at the base of Old Town Baramulla. Two timber thieves carrying sawn timber on shoulders were detected moving towards old town,” he said, adding that immediately forest squad swung into action and gave them a chase but they escaped under the cover of darkness in the adjoining forests.
“Illicit timber (Deodar Sawn 2 no s -6 cft) was seized and carted down to seizure depot under proper departmental escort,” he said, adding “simultaneously based on strong suspicion the forest squad carried out a search operation of two adjoining houses as per due procedure and inmates were questioned. However not much tricked out. The range officers have been given a nod to crush the menace of timber thefts and forest damages and book the culprits under PSA,” the official quoting the concerned DFO said.
