Illicit timber recovered in Handwara

SRINAGAR, Oct 20: Police today recovered illicit timber measuring 22 CFT from the forest compartment of Khudi Mawar area in north Kashmir’s Handwara.
Acting on reliable information regarding the smuggling and cutting of timber in forest compartment No. 25 of Khudi Mawar, the police stated that a team of officers from Handwara Police, led by SHO PS Qalamabad and supervised by SDPO Handwara, rushed to the spot and seized five logs of Deodar measuring up to 22 CFT.
Upon seeing the police party, police said, the accused persons involved in the commission of the crime managed to flee from the spot.
“They have been identified as Salamdin Khatana, son of Laldin Khatana; Nazir Ah Khatana, son of Sartaj Khatana; and Mohd Ramzan Wani, son of Gh Rasool Wani, all residents of Khudi Mawar. Efforts are underway to apprehend them,” the police said.
A case, registered under FIR No. 68/2023 and relevant sections of the law, has been initiated, and an investigation into the matter is underway.
