RAMBAN, May 2: Police has seized a truck loaded with illicit timber and arrested a forester among two persons, who were smuggling the wood from jungles to Gool area.
Reports said that acting on specific input regarding the smuggling of illegal timber in Gool area, Police swung into action and laid a naka on Gool Dhagan Top road last night. Around 2115 hrs, an Ambassador vehicle and one truck loaded with illicit timber were intercepted. One Mohd Ismail of Jamlan Mahore in Reasi, who is forester of Bhudhan Block, was driving Ambassador car and escorting the truck loaded with illicit timber.
On seeking valid documents pertaining to the timber, the said persons failed to produce any documents and tried to escape from the spot. However, Police arrested the duo and seized the timber.
Identity of the arrested truck driver was established as Mohd Yousaf of Gaghra in district Ramban.
A case FIR number 16 of 2014 under Section 379 RPC, 6/39 Forest Act has been registered in this connection at the Police Station.
