Illicit timber seized in Ganderbal

Srinagar, May 14: Police in Ganderbal today seized illicit timber in the Kangan area and also apprehended the driver, in addition to seizing the vehicle involved.
According to authorities, the seizure occurred after officers from the Kangan police station established a checkpoint at Gujjar Pati Prang.
“During checking, a Santro car bearing registration No. DL3CAT-1731 driven by Tariq Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Hassan Bhat resident of Najwan Kangan loaded with illicit Timber (Kairu) was intercepted,” stated the police.
Upon preliminary questioning, authorities discovered that the timber loaded in the vehicle had been illegally acquired from a nearby forest.
“The accused driver has been arrested and the vehicle along with illicit timber (Kairu) has been seized,” affirmed the police.
An investigation is currently underway to apprehend all individuals involved in the illegal activity, the police added. Consequently, a case under FIR No. 38/2024, pertaining to relevant sections of the law, has been registered at the Kangan Police Station, with further investigation ongoing.
