SRINAGAR, Jan 7: Police in Handwara today seized illicit timber and arrested an accused involved in the case.
Authorities said that a police party during checking at Satkoji Zachaldara intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02S-7859 ferrying 4 timber logs of Himalayan Cedar (Deodar).
“During primary questioning, officers learned that the timber logs loaded in the vehicle are illegally acquired from the forest,” police said.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 02/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered.
The driver of the vehicle identified as Nazir Ahmed Wani, son of Wali Mohd Wani resident of Behnipora, police said, has been arrested, and a comprehensive investigation is underway to track down all the individuals involved in the commission of the crime.
