Imam of Hazratbal passes away

Srinagar, Aug 2: Imam of Asar-e-Sharief Hazratbal, Mufti Bashir Ahmad Farooqi today passed away due to heart attack at his residence in Hazratbal.
The deceased was son of Late Moulana Ghulam Ahmad Farooqi, former Imam of Asar-e-Sharief Hazratbal. He was among the nine members recently nominated for the reconstituted Board of Directors of J&K Wakf Board by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. He is survived by his wife, two sons and as many daughters.
His last rites will be observed tomorrow morning in the lawns of Hazratbal shrine.
Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has expressed deep shock and grief over his demise. In his condolence message, he described late Mufti Bashir as a great Islamic scholar who was an embodiment of spirituality, “His passing away has left behind a big void which will be difficult to fill,” he said.
Mufti Sayeed expressed heart-felt sympathy with the family of the late Islamic scholar and prayed for place in jannat for the departed soul.
Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, also expressed shock and grief over the sad demise of Mr Farooqi.
