IMFA organizes programme on World Dance Day

JAMMU, Apr 29: Kathak Dance Department of IMFA, University of Jammu here today celebrated World Dance Day wherein eminent artists, thinkers, practitioners, writers and faculty members of IMFA and students witnessed the Kathak Dance performance followed by Dogri Fusion Dance.
At the outset, Dr. Priya Dutta, In-charge Music and HoD Kathak Dance Department briefed about the occasion.
She said that this day is celebrated all over the world on the birth anniversary of Jean Gorgeous Noveree, a French Dancer and founder of modern ballet and he introduced modern ballet in 18th century.
Students of Kathak Dance Department, Sunidhi Banerjee and Abhishek performed traditional Kathak Dance composed in Dhamar Taal and were accompanied by Dr. Priya Dutta on Padant, Vijay Kumar on Tabla and Rajkumar Sharma on Harmonium. After that, Saba Majid and Shivam Shukla presented Virha Ras.
Then there was experimental Kathak Dance Fusion on popular Dogri songs by Lata Mangeshkar presented by Sunidhi Banerjee, Sonia and Manu Saini.
The fusion was prepared by Dr. Priya Dutta and Guru Purshotam Kumar and it was highly appreciated by all those present on the occasion.
The mesmerizing Kathak Dance programme was attended by renowned Dogri writer and Sahitya Akademi awardee Prof. Lalit Mangotra, renowned poetess, Director Rangyug, Deepak Kumar, Swami Antar Nirav, Hardeep Singh Deep, Parneeta Kapoor, Senior Tabla Player, Guru Purshotam Kumar and faculty members of IMFA Sunil Raina, Suraj Singh, Dr. Sumeet Madan, Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Jasmeet Kour, Dr. Roshi Shaminotra, Rohit Verma and students of IMFA.
