They also demanded the reorganization of JMC in view of the increasing population of Jammu City and extension of its jurisdiction from 23 to 75 wards.
They said under the Government order No 219 sanction was given for the recruitment of 600 Safai Karmacharis in the JMC. The Order was issued in 2017 and though 2020 is about to set in it has not been implemented till date.
Criticising the administration, Gill alleged that it is deliberately delaying the recruitment process and not complying with the order of the Government. He demanded immediate implementation of the order and completing the recruitment process.
The Union representatives also demanded scrapping of the privatization of sanitary system and outsourcing of wards. They said that the administration has already outsourced 15 wards and now they are going to outsource 26 wards.
They said earlier administration had promised the Union representatives that it would not encourage privatization in JMC but now it has backtracked from the assurances. The Union also demanded that outsourcing of vehicles in JMC be also scrapped.
Strongly advocating for reorganization of JMC the leaders of Unions said that this would help in strengthening of JMC and also lead to increase in staff of all cadres to cater to the needs. Besides it would help in providing desired civic conditions to the people living in the jurisdiction of JMC. Further they demanded regularization of 33 contractual drivers who have been serving in the JMC for last 13 years now.
Gill warned that in case the administration failed to concede the demands the JMC employees will be left with no option but to adopt other democratic measures.
Shehazi Gill, Rohit George, Manga Matoo, Ashwani, Jewels Sotra, Sunny Gill, Bansi Lal, Vivek Sood, Jung Badahur, Kulwinder and others were present in press conference.
