JAMMU, Jan 19: All India Backward Classes Federation, J&K Unit has demanded implementation recommendations of the Mandal Commission in Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to media-persons here today, J&K unit president of the Federation, F C Satia said that all Central laws and policies are being implemented in the Union Territory of J&K, therefore, the policy for providing reservation to the OBCs on the pattern of Centre, should also be enforced.
Satia claimed that State Reservation Act 2004, which has been carried forward in J&K UT is ‘defective’ and contains `some unconstitutional’ provisions , like reservations to the `Residents of Backward Area’ (RBA) and or ALC. These provisions are needed to be reviewed/ withdrawn immediately. He demanded that Govt should provide 27 % quota of reservation to the OBC in J&K UT.
He also demanded that Government should appoint Chairman and Members for J&K Backward Classes Commission, amongst the people from OBC community. He also demanded that criteria of 50 % marks for grant of pre-matric scholarship to OBC children in J&K be removed and census of OBC castes may also be done on the analogy of SC/ST in 2021.
Satia alleged that OBC members are facing harassment in the revenue offices from various officials while applying for issuance of caste certificate. It should be stopped immediately. Political parties must provide representation to OBCs while providing mendate of constesting elections for MLA/MP etc.
Prof BL Bhardwaj, N L Baldotra, RK Chalotra and OP Kataria also accompanied Satia at the conference.
