JAMMU, Jan 24: Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly Nazir Ahmed Gurezi today directed the Government to implement the Central Scheme for cross border firing victims whereby compensation for loss of lives has been enhanced from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
The failure of PDP-BJP Coalition Government to implement the scheme approved by the Union Cabinet on August 24, 2016 was exclusively highlighted by EXCELSIOR in today’s edition.
Raising the issue after the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, BJP MLA from Jammu West Sat Sharma said, “no instructions have been issued to the Deputy Commissioners by the Government for implementation of scheme, which otherwise is a landmark decision of the Union Government”.
He demanded statement from the Government on this issue so that in future whosoever loses life in shelling and firing from across the border will get compensation of Rs 5 lakh.
Taking note of the issue, Deputy Speaker, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, who was conducting the proceedings of the House at that time, directed the Government to take steps for implementation of scheme.
