JAMMU, Oct 21: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) has taken a significant step towards advocating for the rights of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a letter to the Prime Minister of India, AIBCU has requested for the grant of Article 371-like provisions in Jammu and Kashmir. This move aims to address the long-standing hurdles that Article 370 posed a hurdle to the constitutional rights of OBCs in the region.
Historically, Article 370 has been a contentious issue, with its abrogation being a subject of debate. The AIBCU has consistently pleaded for its removal, citing its impact on the implementation of the Mandal report in Jammu and Kashmir.
With Article 370 no longer in place, AIBCU now seeks an alternative provision, similar to Article 371, to safeguard the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
AIBCU has commended the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s decision to restore Statehood for which LG has also accepted and given the nod to the Cabinet decision of new Govt.
Besides, Govt efforts to challenge the nomination of five MLAs in the Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh High Court, this move is seen as a significant step towards ensuring democracy and public participation in elections.
AIBCU leaders in a meeting held here under the chairmanship of Mohd Lateef Qureshi and attended by MR Bangotra chief advisor, general secretary Prof. Kali Dass, Jagdish Chopra secretary and Farooq Inqlabi chairman of Pir Panchal region, have expressed optimism that the new government will address the long-pending demands of Backward Classes, upholding their constitutional rights.
