Agriculture is the main stay of Indian economy, COVID-19 lockdown exposed the vulnerability of world dependency on imports of food grains from few food bowels of the world and India is one of them. In Jammu and Kashmir also more than 70% population is dependent on agriculture or associated employment, but the fraudulent land transactions are a big headache for the government and as such digitisation of land record is going on at jet speed under ‘Aap ki Zameen Aap Ki Nigrani’ scheme. So the first phase of securing farmers’ land from land shark mafia is going on. On the other hand GoI is committed to double the income of farmers and as such devising new ways to make it possible. Latest tech project ‘Agristat’ is one such ambitious project to provide digital services to farmers also by government, agri-tech companies, startups and other allied organisations. Each farmer will be tagged with his land record, Aadhar card data to avail various government schemes. This farmer database will be with local administration level and no one else can access it. Right now the process is to first generate the database of farmers for which existing government records and information is being used and once the database is ready government schemes and various agriculture methods and help will be on tips. Each region has its unique soil and climate for different products as such local agricultural scientists and agriculture department officers have very important role to play. No need of going village to village for guiding farmers. no need to access each and every field, general specific information can be passed on to farmers to follow and get immediate consultancy on what to do and what not to do. Compensations in case of any calamity will be automatically get calculated and transferred digitally to farmers account. With proper guidance, target is to increase yield manifold and thereby increasing farmers’ income exponentially. It’s a mutually beneficial scheme for farmers as well as government, no doubt, for the prosperity of our nation.
