JAMMU, Dec 22: As a curtain raiser to the ensuing Christmas Day celebrations, a colourful procession here today was taken out by J&K Joint Churches Fellowship of Jammu and Christian Community.
The procession was flagged off by Divisional Commissioner Jammu and senior Congress leader Harinder (Vicky) Mahajan.
It started from St Paul CNI Residency Road and culminated at Shahidi Chowk after passing through Raghunath Bazar, City Chowk, Raj Tilak Road, Prade Road, Kachi Chawni PHQ, Pantirthi, Chowk Chabutra, Jain Bazar, Purani Mandi and Kanak Mandi.
Tableaus of Santa Clause, Angles and King Herod were special attraction in the procession.
The choirs of different Churches on trolleys recited devotional songs in the praise of God and songs relating to the birth of Jesus Christ.
The market associations at many places gave a warm welcome to the procession and offered refreshment to the participants of the procession.
The main organizers of the religious procession were Udhar Singh, Priest St Pauls CNI Church; Father Kuriakos, I/C St Peter Catholic Church; Shoukat Peter, President Jammu and Kashmir Joint Churches Fellowship of Jammu; S.M Gill, Ex-MLC; Isaac Bhatti, Feastus Sotra, Robin Bhatti and others.
The organizers expressed gratitude toward the district administration, police, traffic police, JMC, general public and shopkeepers for their cooperation and warm welcome to the procession and extended Christmas and Happy New Year greetings to all.
