JAMMU, July 7: Amid religious atmosphere, an impressive Jagannath Rath Yatra was taken out in Jammu city today.

A large number of devotees, mostly from Orissa and other parts of the country, took part in the Rath Yatra, which passed through different areas of Jammu city.
During the Rath Yatra, enthusiastic devotees of various age groups were seen dancing on the drum beats and singing devotional songs in praise of Lord Jagannath.
Earlier, idols of Lord Jagannath were reverentially placed on the highly decorated Rath (chariot) amidst religious slogans. With the help of long ropes, the Rath was being pulled by the devotees.
While taking out the Rath Yatra, several devotees kept dancing and singing on devotional songs. Some of them were carrying musical instruments Manjeera in their hands.
Several prominent locals, including former BJP Minister Sat Sharma and others also took part in the Rath Yatra. The administration has made security arrangements for smooth conduct of the Yatra.
Pertinent to mention that Jagannath Rath Yatra is a sacred annual procession that holds a tremendous value in Orissa and among Odia community. Over the time, this Yatra has extended to other parts of the country, including Jammu.
