JAMMU, Nov 21: An impressive Nagar Kirtan was taken out in Jammu City today on the eve of 549 Prakash Utsav of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. Organised by District Gurudwara Prabandak Committee (DGPC) Jammu, the Nagar Kirtan started from Gurudwara Yadgar, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar, here.

Thousands of devout Sikhs drawn from different parts of the Jammu region reciting Gurbani and raising religious slogans participated in the Nagar Kirtan. As the Nagar Kirtan left the Gurudwara at Chand Nagar, the slogans ‘Jo Bholey So nihal Sat Sri Aakal’ rent the air.
Led by Panj Piyaras attired in traditional Khalsa dresses the Nagar Kirtan started at 11 am from the Chand Nagar Gurudwara and it passed via Vinayak Bazar, Dogra Chowk, Tawi bridge, Asia Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Gole Market and culminated at Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Nanak Nagar in the evening.
The Palki of Guru Ji Maharaj which was fully decorated with flowers was the centre of attraction during the Nagar Kirtan. Thousands of devotees standing enroute welcomed the Nagar Kirtan and paid obeisance to Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj and performed darshan of his Palki.
There was a lot of enthusiasm among the Sikh devotees who participated in the Nagar Kirtan. The welcome gates were installed enroute by the devotees to receive the Nagar Kirtan. Besides, the devotees have also installed stalls enroute for those who participated in the Nagar Kirtan and ‘Parsad’ was distributed among the people.
The children of over one dozen schools attired in colorful costumes and uniforms besides the Ragi Jathas of different areas participated in the Nagar Kirtan. It was organised by general secretary DGGPC, Fateh Singh, Manjeet Singh.
Performing of surprising feats by Sikh youth and various Ghatka organizations was the main attraction for the devotees during the Nagar Kirtan enroute.
The people were so attracted by these feats that large number of people travelling on fly over halted their two wheelers and four wheelers to witness the feats of Ghatka organizations on B C Road.
The authorities had made elaborate security arrangements enroute and traffic was diverted from other routes to avert the jams and hindrance in passage of Nagar Kirtan.
The devotees were seen sweeping the road where from the Palki of Guru Nanak Ji was taken. They also showered flowers on the road.
The School children taking part in Nagar Kirtan also performed ‘March Past’.
Some Ragi Jathas from outside the State also participated in the Nagar Kirtan.
Poet Zamir Ali Zamir of Malerkotla Punjab, Chain Singh Chakerwarti, Bhupinder Singh, Pracharak Ajit Pal Singh, Harmeet Singh, Gurmeet Singh and others threw light on the life of Guru Nanak Maharaj. Zamir Ali Zamir highlighted the spiritual significance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji through his poems.
On the Prakash Parv of Guru Nanak Ji Maharaj on November 23 a grand religious congregation will be held at Gurudwara Yadgar, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Chand Nagar here. On the occasion Akhand Path will be performed and the function will be organised by the DGPC Jammu.
In connection with celebration of Prakash Utsav a grand Nagar Kirtan was also taken out in Kathua town today. Guru Ka Darbar was taken out in a fully decorated vehicle by the Sikh devotees. It was followed by hundreds of devotees who were reciting Gurbani and Kirtan in praise of Guru Ji Maharaj.
The Nagar Kirtan started from Guru Kalgidhar Dashmesh Nagar, Swana Chak and culminated at Sawan Chak Gurudwara. The Ragi Jathas chanting Gurbani participated in the procession. Guru ka Langer was organized at Gurudwara Singh Sabha , Kathua for devotees.
