Impressive Nagar Kirtan taken out on eve of Gurpurab

JAMMU, Nov 12: An impressive Nagar-Kirtan was taken out on the eve of Gurpurab celebrations in connection with the 548th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikh religion here, today by the members of Sikh community.
The Nagar Kirtan was jointly organized by State Gurudwara Parbandhak Board (SGPB) and District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, (DGPC) Jammu in which a large number of devout Sikhs drawn from different parts of Jammu region including men, women and children participated with great enthusiasm and religious fervor.
The Nagar Kirtan started from Gurudwara Yadgar Guru Nanak Dev Ji near Ghumat and after passing through Vinayak Bazar, Dogra Chowk, Bikram Chowk, District Police Lines, Gandhi Nagar, Hospital Road, Gole Market Gandhi Nagar, Shiva Ji Chowk it culminated at Gurudwara Nanak Nagar in the evening.
All the routes were fully decorated by the devotees to receive the Nagar Kirtan by erecting welcome gates. The devotees were seen sweeping the road where from the Nagar Kirtan was to pass.
The Nagar Kirtan was led by Panj Pyaras attired in traditional Khalsa dress. They were preceded by devout Sikhs riding on horses. A fully decorated vehicle carrying the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy religious scripture of Sikhs followed them.  The Sawari of  Guru Granth Sahib was followed by School children attired in different dresses carrying religious flags and banners.
A large number of devout Sikhs took part in the Nagar Kirtan reciting Shabad Kirtan and Gurbani enroute. The administration had made elaborate arrangements for the Nagar Kirtan and traffic on the road where from Nagar Kirtan had to pass was diverted to other routes so that there is no inconvenience to the devotees participating in the Nagar Kirtan.
The devotees’ enroute were paying their obeisance to the Guru Granth Sahib.
The religious preachers from Punjab and other parts of the country participated in Nagar Kirtan. They included Balbir Singh Bal from Sangroor, a preacher from Delhi and SGPC preacher Sandeep Paul Singh from Darbar Sahib Amritsar. In addition to it the local preachers from the State also participated in the Nagar Kirtan.
After conclusion of the Nagar Kirtan at Gurudwara Nanak Nagar religious discourses were given by religious preachers Sandeep Paul Singh and Parkash Singh.
They also highlighted the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji who gave the message of love, brotherhood, peace and equality of human beings.
Talking to this reporter on the sidelines of the Nagar Kirtan, Tralochan Singh Wazir, president State Gurudwara Prabandhak Board (SGPB) said Guru Nanak Ji launched a crusade against social evils prevalent in the society during those days. He also raised his voice against the tyrant rulers of that time and took a confrontation with them for upliftment. He educated people to eradicate social evils and casteism, which, was eating up the vitals of the society.
He said Guru Nanak Ji gave message that all human beings are children of one God and their main dharma should be humanity.
He said Guru Nanak Dev Ji performed four yatras during his life time and travelled 40,000 kms. While spreading his message among the masses, he told them that a true Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Sikh is he who believes in humanism and treats all people alike.
Reports from Kathua said that an impressive Nagar Kirtan was also taken in the town today on the eve of Gurpurab. The Nagar Kirtan started from Gurudwara Singh Sabha and passed via Shaheedi Chowk. It culminated at Sawan Chak. A large number of devotees drawn from different parts of the Kathua participated in the Nagar Kirtan. The people enroute had erected stalls to distribute prashad and fruit among devotees.
