JAMMU, Mar 28:  An impressive and colourful ‘shobha yatra’ (religious procession) was today taken out on the occasion of Ramnavmi, the birthday of Lord Rama- here today. Member Parliament and Chairman Trustee Dr Karan Singh attended Shoba Murti Poojan at Shri Raghunath Ji Temple. The ‘Rath Yatra’ was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust.
Thousands of devotees from various parts of the region took part in the procession. The procession started from Raghunathji Temple and it after passing through City Chowk, Purani Mandi, Link Road, Jain Bazar,Purani Mandi and City Chowk culminated back at Raghunath Ji Temple.
A special pooja was also performed by Dr Karan Singh Chairman Trustee J&K Dharmarth Trust, and Trustees Vikramaditya Singh and Ajastshatru Singh at Raghunath Ji Temple before the commencement of Rath Yatra.
Hundreds of devotees comprising prominent, citizens, politicians and heads of religious organizations participated in the pooja. Various heads of the non-Hindu organizations also accorded a rousing reception to the Yatra enroute.
Several prominent people including MoS Education and Culture,  Priya Sethi, Rajesh Gupta MLA, Principal Secy. Health and Medical Education Shantmanu, Director Doordarshan,  Anjali Sharma, Yashpal Gupta, IG J&K Police Danish Rana, DIG Shakeel Beig, Dr Deepak Abrol, President Dharmarth Trust Maj Gen (Retd.) R S Jamwal, Shashi Khajuria Secy. Dharmarth Trust, Ramakant Dubey, patron VHP and other prominent citizen also joined the Shobha Yatra procession, Muslim Federation also welcome the Rath Yatra at Khatika Talab.
Tight security arrangements were made across the city for the smooth conduct of celebrations senior police officers also presents on the occasion.
Heavy rush of devotees was witnessed at the historical Raghunath Ji temple where people made long queues to participate in “pooja” and other holy rituals. Meanwhile, devotees also offered special prayers on the banks of river Tawi where they had went for immersion of ‘Saakh’ (barleysprouts). After the nine day long Durga poojan the Saakh was immersed in river Tawi and at river Chander Bagha (Chenab) Akhnoor by the devotees.
Meanwhile various social and religious organizations organized functions on the occasion of Ramnavmi today.
To inculcate moral and spiritual values among the masses Bhagawaan Gopinathji Trust organized a eight -day long spiritual activity at the Bhagawaan Gopinathji Ashram Udaiwala Bohri during the auspicious Navratras. Thousands of devotees thronged the Ashram during these days and it was gratifying to watch the devotees participating in the activities in a spirit of true devotion and humility. The hawan started on March 20 and culminated with puranahuti today. A huge gathering of devotees took part in recitation of about fifteen million mantras during these auspicious days.
The nine day long Durga Poojan festival also culminated at Kailash Vidyadham, Chinore with a Maha Yagya today. A large number of devotees attended the function organised by the Trust under the chairmanship of its president Sukhdev Singh Jamwal Sarpanch and senior trustee, Prof A K Ogra.
Swami Ji of the Ashram gave religious discourses during the nine days and highlighted the significance of Nav Durga festival. After the puranhauti of the Hawan devotees were served with prashad.
The nine day long Durga Pooja culminated at Sharika Peeth Sanstha, Subash Nagar with a Maha Yagya. A large number of devotees participated which include women and children also. A religious discourse was given by Swami Pran Nath Bhat Gareeb (Bhaijee). The function was also attended by MLA Sat Sharma and other dignitaries. The president of the Sanstha M K Jalali also spoke on the occasion.
The Nav Durga festival was also celebrated in Pushkara Swami Seva Ashram Chinore Bantlab and Najabgarh Delhi with full religious fervour and gaiety. Pooja archana and bhajan Kirtan were held which was followed by serving of parishad to devotees.
Ram Sena celebrated the Ramnavmi at Old Age Home Ambphalla under the chairmanship of Rajiv Mahajan.
In connection with Ramnavmi celebrations Maa Ki Chowki has been organized today at I-C, Sec-East Extension, Trikuta Nagar Jammu by Welfare Association of Residents to seek the blessings of Maa Durga.
On the occasion of Ramnavmi the members of NGO Jiyo Aur Jeene do organized at Kanya Poojan programme in which a large number of little girls and women participated. The members of the organization led by president Tariq Shah honoured the girls on the occasion.
Ramnavmi was also celebrated by Kashmiri Sahayak Samiti Trikuta Nagar.  A hawan was performed on the occasion which culminated with Puranahuti and serving of prashad to devotees.
Ramnavmi was also celebrated in Kishtwar, Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Poonch,  Rajouri , Samba, Hiranagar  and other towns with religious fervour and gaiety today.
Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan staged 43rd Musical play Maa Sheranwali in collaboration with Unison Cultural Troup, Sangam True Art Production & ESRM as part of its regular feature at Durga Bhawan Janipur here. The programme was inaugurated by Dr Tara Singh Charak, former Deputy Director, Health Department.
