SRINAGAR, May 22: People’s Conference leader and former Minister, Imran Reza Ansari and his uncle Abid Hussain Ansari were booked for allegedly assaulting a police officer and election officials during Monday’s polling in Baramulla.
Police have filed two FIRs against People’s Conference leader Imran Ansari for allegedly assaulting a police officer and polling officials during Monday’s elections in Baramulla.
The FIR numbers 167 and 168 have been filed at the Pattan Police Station for assaulting a Station House Officer and a Polling Officer at two Polling Stations in Pattan on Monday when the polling was underway.

They said that the Sections under which FIRs have been filed include 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 353, 332 (both assaults to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 379-A (snatching) of the Indian Penal Code IPC and 131 Representation of Peoples Act.
According to the FIR, Ansari and his supporters allegedly barged into a polling booth at Hanjiveera and created disturbance. When the police tried to intervene, they allegedly assaulted the police officer. In another case, they allegedly assaulted micro observers and a Polling Officer at Yakhrampora in the Baramulla district.
According to the FIR at around 2 pm on May 20, a group of people entered the Polling station with aggressive intent. They approached the Polling Officer who told them not to interfere with the election process. They closed the door of the polling room and approached the Polling Officer aggressively and hit him multiple times as he fell on the floor. They beat other polling staff who tried to intervene and snatched their phones.
“As they left while physically and verbally abusing them they threw down the polling material and the ballot unit. No security personnel came to intervene even when called upon. The Polling Officer was injured and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment,” read the FIR.
“Among the people who entered the Polling Station two of them identified as Imran Raza and Abid Raza,” read the FIR.
