POONCH Dec, 21: Expressing serious concern over the plight of nomadic Gujjars and Bakarwals who are deprived of basic amenities by the authorities, Shamsher HaklaPoonchi a prominent Gujjar leader and intellectual today urged the Government to provide all basic facilities to nomadic Gujjars and Bakarwals.
In a statement issued here, he said that these hapless people are leading a miserable and hard life and being nationalists to the core Government should extend benefits of all welfare schemes to them launched from time to time.
Hakla said that these people are guarding the borders of the country in the State and have also played a remarkable role in this regard right from partition of the country. He said that problems of these people however have compounded over the years as the successive governments failed to take due care of them.
Hakla appealed the Lieutenant Governor, J&K, Girish Chandra Murmu to approach the Government of India with the recommendation that Gojri language be included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India. Hakla further added that the Gojri language is being spoken by a very large number population of Gujjars and Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir the number of which goes over thirty four lakhs which in no way could be ignored.
Keeping in view the demand of such a huge number of population the inclusion of Gojri language in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution is most genuine and justified, he said.
