SAMBA, Sept 24: Former Minister and president district Congress Committee, Samba, Manjit Singh today appealed Governor, Satya Pal Malik to include Jat community in Other Backward Class (OBC) category.
In a statement here, today the former Minister said that the plight of Jat community is miserable and there is a dire need to uplift them. “Many in Jat community do minor private jobs in Punjab, and other neighbouring states of the country to make their both ends meet. The Government should look into their condition, they are living in,” said Manjit Singh, senior Congress leader from Samba district.
Singh said that this community was uprooted in Indo-Pak wars in 1965 and 1971 and during partition and are the worst suffers at present. But, no one in the Government took care of them till date.
“There is a need to give them reservation so that they can be uplifted politically, economically and socially as they are facing alienation and negligence from the Government,” he said, adding that various Government departments should help them to improve their livelihood.
Recalling that they had submitted a memorandum to Backward Class Commission, J&K, in 2006, the former Minister said that their demands still remained a dream.
He threatened that the peace loving Jat community should not be compelled to come on the roads, and appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to accept the demand for including of Jat community in OBC for their reservation.
