JAMMU, June 18: The Pradesh Congress has demanded that in view of fast spreading Corona virus in the country, the Government must enhance tests and other various health care facilities in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a meeting of the District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Urban held at party office today, the members discussed various issues. The meeting was presided over by District Jammu president Yogesh Sawhney and addressed by former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla. It was attended by District office bearers, ward presidents and workers of the party.
Speaking on the occasion, Raman Bhalla said that in view of COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed several precious lives across the world, there is an urgent need  to address poor sanitation condition in Jammu city. Another crucial issue, the Congress leader stressed, is lack of testing laboratories, which should be increased.
“Health care facilities should be enhanced in keeping the present situation in mind. Adequate equipments and ventilators are also required, specifically for Jammu region,” he added.
“MPs from Kashmir have donated funds for fight against COVID-19 particularly in Kashmir, while MPs from Jammu have invested their funds in the Prime Minister’s National Fund. Considering needs of Jammu people, these MPs should also keep concern of Jammu people on top priority,” Bhalla stated.
Bhalla strongly resented daily increase in diesel and petrol prices and demanded a roll back of the hike. “We strongly denounce daily increase of fuel prices and demand substantial reduction in prices in these critical times, when the entire country is in a storm of COVID–19 pandemic. This is the time to facilitate and hand-hold the people of the country and various sectors of economy. The temptation and avarice to collect revenue/ profits at the cost of survival and sustenance of poor common man should be avoided,” said Bhalla.
Yogesh Sawhney said that BJP Govt has failed to address political and developmental aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He  stated that people had enough dose of mis-governance in the J&K for last six years, saying people have realized that they have to support Congress which can address their issues and fulfill their expectations. On the collapse of administrative apparatus with regard to development and ensuring utility services, Sawhney  said that while various projects are starving for funds, the payments under MGNREGA remain unpaid.
He  alleged that the BJP is befooling the people of this city with dreams of making Jammu a Smart City, for the past one year, there has been no discussions and deliberations with the elected corporators on the status and work done towards making Jammu a Smart City. Even the basic requirement of sanitation is suffering because of lack of Safai Karamcharies, Sawhney added.
Prominent  among those present in the meeting include Ravinder Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Manmohan Singh, S S Shingari, S Gurdarshan Singh,  Dr Ramakant Khajuria, M L Malager, Pawan Singh, Jyoti Vaid and others.
