Increasing MBBS seats

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘J&K GMCs’ MBBS seats to go up from 200 to 300′ DE May 17.
This is one of the momentous decisions taken by the Government keeping in view  dearth of doctors in the State. Raising the seats from 200 to 300 will go a long way to improve the health  scenario of the State, particularly in rural areas.
Besides, the move will also enable the bridge the doctor-patient ratio to an extent, though it may be small. Presently, our hospitals remain crowded and most of  the patients complain that they do not get proper medicare in them.
As a result of it, some unsavoury incidents have taken place in the past in which attendants and doctors indulged in brawls.
Most of the health centres are manned by paramedical staff and not by doctors. When approached the concerned authorities for providing doctors for centres located in peripheral areas they express their inability to provide doctors on the  ruse of shortage of doctors.
Now, when the seats are going to raised upto 300, there is a hope that health scenario will  change for better.
However, those doctors coming out of these colleges should be debarred from serving any other place than the State.
Yours etc….
