Increasing scab damaged apple crop in Valley: PRF

GANDERBAL, July 18: Chairman Peoples Revolutionary Forum (PRF) and trade unionist, Mir Ghulam Rasool Butwani called on District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal Pyush Singla and discussed the problems of fruit growers with him caused due to the scab and other kind of diseases engulfing the apple orchards in the Valley.
He sought immediate intervention of the administration and government in overcoming the disease as it will ruin the fruit industry completely in case the attention was not paid to tackle and fight this disease on war footing basis.
Mir informed the DC that fruit industry is the backbone of Kashmiri’s economy and it was only this industry which sustained the economy of Valley during the period of turmoil also.
He said that with the advent of duplicate pesticides and fungicides in the market the fruit growers are worried as by sprinkling these pesticides and fungicides the fruit is attracted by other kind of diseases which were not known so far.
He urged DC to issues instructions to the Horticulture Department to make survey by visiting the different areas growing apple and fight out these diseases on war footing basis.
Mir said that main cause of increasing scab is due to sudden climatic change also and the researchers should pay attention to the same.
